Then to make matters worse - IIRC - it would go 'slightly' more than 1/16 turn - just so when you flip the damn open end, you can't get it back on the head. So you gotta flip it back over and turn the damn thing backwards slighty.

Is your truck 4WD? Maybe that's why it's harder for you to get it done, and I really didn't have any issues (other than lots of turns) because I have 2WD

Yes its 4x4, you can only access from the top ... Somebody was in here before and replaced the front strut /springs and P/S Rack it looks like they may have installed the P/S Pulley after the pump was installed. The high pressure fitting is clocked in such a way that you cant get to the bolt. Im hoping to tweek this fitting If I can get the pump off...

Todays update ... this is way more than I expected....
So ..... I removed the P/S pump pulley and had full access to the last bolt..

.....that sucker fought me to the end I had to pry that pump to break it loose.

When I finally got the front cover I was able to see the carnage inside.....

Lots of slack in the drivers side chain. The passenger side guide broke and has wedged itself behind the chain causing the Trigger Wheel to get chewed to pieces...

Trigger Wheel back side

I am in the process of dropping the front axle to pull the pan...
Im really thinking of just cutting my losses and parting it out....

$2000 vs $25-40k for a new vehicle. I'd say its better to finish what you started. If you did it correctly, you'll have a better running truck.

You could sink $7 to $10k into a new engine and transmission and still come out ahead rather than buying a new truck. $40k to $50k? That's just INSANE for a damned truck! You could buy a house for that back in my day.

Even buying another used truck - you'd be getting someone else's headache or possibly the same problems you have now. This fix is a pain in the *** for sure, but you KNOW what's in it after it's done.

I'm opting for a new engine and transmission - or at least that's my original plan. Unfortunately my ol' girl has had enough and forcing my hand to do this repair. I already have the parts, but I've been putting it off. Now she's bitching!

Well I got it torn down. I droped the front axle and removed the oil pan. I went a step further and removed all 8 spark plugs with out breakage.
All the parts are here including the reluctor which got chewed up by the timing chain. There was quite a bit of metal in the oil and at the bottom of the pan ...
Just taking my time ....cleaning things up ....
Ill post more later.

Default You are doing a remarkable job of cleaning

Don't forget to get the oil pu screen cleaned out its usually full of ground up fibers .I would also recommend filling new filter before installing to help prime pump .We usually prime by stopping a engine start and using starter 5-6 times .One method is to hold gas pedal to floor as this is a procedure to clear a flood .
