X3... Sounds like valve guides/seals in the cylinder heads. I had an 86 IROC Camaro in high school way back in the day and it used to blow blue smoke just as you are describing. Always when I started it up. And only when hot girls were around I swear!

It was the valve seals. Kinda weird considering your low miles, but nothing surprises me with these engines. Hell, replacing cam phasers should be considered scheduled maintenance every 50,000 miles on our engines!

Also, if it were piston rings, it would blow blue smoke at all periods of run time. Not JUST when you start it up. Oil is getting past your valve seals and accumulating on top of your piston when engine is off. Then, when you start it up initially, that oil is burned off and the smoke goes away. Engine warms up, seals expand, and smoke stops.

Thanks again for the help. I was kinda thinking it had to do with the valve seals or guides. Anybody ever change out the valve seals without pulling the heads off? Id like to try that first if at all possible cause if it is the guide we r talking about here we are talking a lil bit of $$$ for an engine rebuilder to put them in cause you need a special tool to compress the springs which cost around $200 for the tool. Then gasket kits ect.... Thanks again!!!

Default oil

Run some Seafoam through the engine, using the brake booster hose trick is the best way!

I have been doing some looking around and i cant seem to find the pcv valve anywhere. I did some research on the forum and most people have said that you cant change the pcv valve on the 5.4 3v engines is that true?
