Default 2004 exhaust advice

hey everyone, got a question on exhaust upgrades on my 04 with the 5.4. recently bought the truck from a neighbor when the stealership told him that he needed a new engine at 88,000 miles. replaced all timing parts per mr. svares sticky and truck runs great. buuuuut man does this truck like fossil fuel. ive been driving explorers for the last 15 years and although they dont sip fuel this 5.4 seems to love it. just went on a 500 mile trip and averaged 15 mpg. around town i think im getting around 11. im ordering a K&N airfilter kit and thinking about the fowmaster force 2 exhaust as my stock exhaust needs replaced. i dont want to get crazy with headers and full duals all the way back as my muffler is the only thing thats bad. your thoughts . Thanks

I like the sound of a MagnaFlow muffler there not to load but sounds good it help my truck a little on fuel the best thing I did was a cold air intake that help my truck out the most

Hey Clint, which cold air intake did you go with, from what I been reading they are the most bang for the buck on these engines

Cold air intakes have been proven over and over again to do nothing for our trucks but add sound. The stock intake that came with the truck is already a cold air intake.

If you're after mileage, try to keep it under 2k RPM and lock-out OD under 40 miles per hour.
The shift program in these is almost criminal in how much time it spends pushing power through the unlocked torque converter slush-pump.
