Exclamation Help! engine problems

Ok hey guys, my dad has an 05 FX4 with 107000 miles on it. Awhile ago i was driving it and punched the gas hard and caused the check engine light to come on. The light came on and the engines rpm's dropped like a brick, and there was no power after that. i was able to solve this by shutting it off and restarting, this worked fine.

Tonight, at around 50 miles an hour of normal driving habits the light came on again. It came on, then the AC blew hot air out at me. Then the rpm's dropped below 1000. I pulled over, shut off the engine and it ran fine after that. However, now in-between shifts, i have a SEVERE shutter.

I am thinking possibly a misfire problem? Should i just try to change the spark plugs?

Any help would be appreciated as i would hate to take this thing to the stealership for work!

thank you in advance

ok, i just got the truck back from our mechanic. He ran the code and it was a short on cylinder 5. He found that the ignition coil was shorting out on that cylinder and causing a misfire. It runs fine now.

He said that plugs on the 5.4L triton should be changed at 100k miles. However, he does not perform this procedure, neither do most shops, since that is a design flaw with these engines.
He said that they are known to break off while trying to remore and require a special tool to safely preform spark plug changes. He says just take it to the dealer or a ford specialist if you want the plugs changed. According to him, sometimes none will break, but sometimes all 8 will break(1200dollar repair).

So im not having the plugs changed until i get a code for a misfire that is caused by the plugs!
