Brakes
I have noticed that my truck has started to surge when I apply the brakes. Almost like I am pumping them, but it isn't extremely drastic. I'm thinking the rotors are warped. Any ideas? I think I will go and have the rotors turned for $48 total and see if that fixes the issue.

A good shop will measure them before resurfacing do make sure there is enough metal left to dissapate heat so they don't warp again. Check your calipers, if they're binding up they'll cause heat build up and you'll be right back where you started.

A full brake inspection you can do on your own for free. Also replacing the pads, rotors, calipers and doing a brake flush has been explained thoroughly on this forum. Save yourself some money and do it on your own.

Replace the pads and the rotors as a set. Never had a good experience machining warped rotors hoping they would not warp again. And a bad caliper can ruin both new pads and rotors. If you are at all uncertain about servicing your brakes, do yourself a favor and have a professional do the job for you. It is relatively easy to do, but remember lives are on the line when you hit the brakes. Brakes and tires, 2 things you NEVER want to skimp on.

I just spent ~$50 each for rebuilt Ford calipers and brackets by Raybestos. Hawk Performance Ceramic front brake pads were less than $80. I added Russell braided stainless brake lines for ~$110. I got all parts on Amazon and they were delivered quickly.

It depends on what you would call a good set up. What are your driving habits like? Do you tow/haul anything? If so, how often and how heavy? This is my current set up:
2003 Ram 1500 SLT Crew Cab 5.7 Hemi 4x4
AP Racing Front/Rear Rotors
EBC RedStuff Front/Rear Brake Pads
Factory Calipers
Factory Brake Lines
Aggressive driving characteristics, haul 8,000lb trailer daily. Brake pads need minimal warm up time but once they reach temperature they stop as if I threw a boat anchor off the back of the truck. Takes a while to get used to at first. Almost no brake fade at all, even when going down mountain passes with the heavy trailer.
2004 F-150 FX4 Crew Cab 5.4 Triton 4x4
AP Racing Front Rotors, Factory Rear Rotors
Hawk Ceramic Yellow Front Brake Pads, Factory Rear Brake Pads
Factory Calipers
Factory Brake Lines
Aggressive driving characteristics, haul 8,000lb trailer daily. Brake pads need no warm up time and have very progressive and linear braking performance. Very easy to modulate and control braking. No brake fade at all, even when going down mountain passes with the heavy trailer.
