Default 2004-2008 Fuel Door Fix?

Since purchasing my truck the plastic flimsy fuel door just flops open in the wind. Aside from buying a new "plastic" fuel door and bracket for $40-60, has anyone made a metal one, or was able to fix the plastic one so it stays closed? I've seen the metal and metal look dress up kits, and don't want those. I just miss the good ole' solid metal fuel doors. Any direction would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Not sure the exact differences in the doors...
But I fixed my 2010's that was doing the same.

Take a look at:

There are others that similarly explain it as well... all told. Took me about 1/2 hour and stuff i already had on hand.

I must be lucky I have a 2006 with 140k miles on it, original owner, fuel door has never broke on me??

I live in NJ so it's full service only, maybe the gas station attendants have the soft touch....................

Just buy a new one and replace it... The first one made it this far.

I have a locking fuel cap. I might just fabricate a steel one. I appreciate everyone's input. Thank you.

This is actually kind of common, from what I read (anecdotal on the internet). Personally when I took mine apart to fix the rust around it, it was working fine. It's still working fine.

So, Why did you go with a locking fuel cap, you can't siphon from our tanks.

You're saying I can't take the funnel they gave me with my pickup, put it in the easyfill port, and then stick a hose in?
