so a few months ago i was in afghanistan and decided to get an f150. got on the forum and started reading. just happened to read this thread, but wasn't sure why. turns out later the owner of the truck i bought didn't know the touch pad codes. i then figured out why i had read this thread before. thanks. awesome info and now i can use it.

Does Ford really not keep track of this via the VIN?? There really isn't a number I can call and verify all my info and have them give me the code?! I only ask because I failed at this today, tried for an hour and even after guiding with my finger I couldn't get the seat off that latch. I'll try again but it's ridiculous that they can't just tell us the code
They do keep track of it. I bought my truck from a Ford Dealer and they did not have the code. Salesman got on the the phone and a couple days later, I had a code.

Great video! Just bought an 07 Lariat 4X4 and got one key, no code. May go this route. (Replacement for the 07 Tundra that recently got creamed by a Beetle - I need to update my sig)
First I'll check with the Jaguar Sage and see if he has any Ford software for his WDS he needs to check out. If so, perhaps he'll be inclined to scan it for me. If I recall correctly, the WDS/IDS diagnostic tool will report the code. Maybe he'll be feeling generous or need a Ford to connect to in order to check out his computer.....
To fill in a little background, assuming things haven't changed in 15-20 yrs. I worked for a Ford Supplier in the 1990's. We worked very closely with the Ford Customer Service Division (FCSD). Back then (and I assume now, as well) the modules would store 3 codes, but as far as John Q. Public was aware, only 2. The one that you get when you buy it new, which I assume is the one printed on the module, and the custom one you can load. To make it easy on myself and the kiddos, I loaded the Excursion's reset code as the custom in the 03 F-150, and the F-150's reset code as custom in the Excursion. That way, either one you happen to remember will open either truck. Now, that third code.....first one is probably a better description. There is a universal code (I don't know it, I only know of it) that opens them all.
While on a business trip with the Ford guys back in the 90's, I met the FCSD Engineer we worked closely with and another engineer from the Climate Control Division for a round of golf - a collateral duty surrounding the MACS or SEMA show or some such. They showed up with a Lincoln Town Car for their Hertz rental, shaming my Camry or other generic rental sedan. CCD guy was driving and had the keys, and elected to make a head-call after we'd signed-in and paid the fees. FCSD-guy exclaims, "Oh crap, left my sunglasses in the car....I'll meet you guys at the carts" and bolted. CCD guy finished his business and returned to the pro shop, "Y'all ready? Hey...where's Dave?"
"Said he left sunglasses in the car....went to get 'em, said he'd meet us at the carts."
"Hehe...good luck to him....I've got the keys!"
Naturally, when we arrived at the carts, FCSD-Dave was bedecked in his shades and grinning like the Chesire cat. CCD guy's questioning of how he retrieved them revealed the existence of the universal code.
