2 Questions on the 06 F150
I have a 2006 F150...4.6 V8...The ABS light came on a few days ago. Just had the code read and it is the rear speed sensor. My problem is that I cannot find the rear wheel speed sensor at any of the local parts stores. Anyone have any idea where I can find one?
Second question....I have 92k on it, it is beginning to start pretty hard. Im assuming that it will need plugs and wires. Engine code reads cylinder 5 misfire...Should I change them myself or just bite it and take it to a garage? Ive read where some have had a pretty hard time changing them??? Thanks everyone...Its my first time on here.

The rear speed sensor is in the rear differential, dealers will have it and I think I've seen it on rockauto.com.
Read the thread I just posted in this forum about the spark plugs: https://www.f150forum.com/f4/5-4l-3v...30-07-a-56871/ , it all depends on what you're willing to put into the plug change.

Yes, there should be a single rear sensor that works for 4x or 2x. Here's the Ford Part Number for comparison:
Wheel Speed Sensor
Speed Sensor
Rear
6L3Z9E731A $80.33
Wheel Speed Sensor
Speed Sensor
Rear

BEfore you do that, check the wiring to it. It sits right on top of the differential towards the front and towards the driver's side. PEople have found a broken wire, or exhaust can melt it. It might be a free fix.
NExt, you can put an ohm meter to that sensor, and it should read between 3.8 Megaohms and 5 Megaohms from terminal to terminal.
IF that's ok, open the hood, and on the driver's side you'll see the brake lines coming out of the ABS module. pull the unhook latch and seperate the electrical connector- check for corrosion and clean it if there is, then reinstall it. this is very very easy you'll laugh how easy this connector seperates.
Then try your truck again and see if the failure has cleared.
I have my ABS light on and I think it's my rear sensor also, but I tried a 4 Megaohm resistor instead of the sensor hoping that the ABS light would go out (at least on start up) jsut to isolate the problem... but it did not. so that shoots my theory to ******.
I've done some of my own research and proved that disconnecting either of the FRONT wheel speed sensors brings on the ABS light AND the Brake light (on the dash). but disconnecting the REAR sensor only brings on the ABS light- (this proven by a buddy). so everything points at a failed rear sensor in both our cases. I just can't figure out why a 4 Megohm resistor wouldn't simulate a good sensor at boot up when the ABS module does a check for each sensor.
LEt me know what you find out.

ps, I've also tried removing the sensor, cleaning it and re-installing it- no dice. Mine measures open circuit (infinite ohms) so It is bad forsure.

THe 4.6 V8s do not have the same issues as the 5.4s.. You can do the change yourself and it will not be overly expensive to take it to a shop. Just "remind" them that the small V8 do not suffer from the dreaded split plug syndrome. I took mine in to a shop and that was the first thing I "informed" them of. Ran me $135.00 out the door. Not too shabby!

Thanks guys...I look into the wiring tomorrow after work, and will def let you know what i find out. And I feel much better about the spark plugs now too! I'll probably end up doing them myself. Thanks again!

Well I looked at the wiring this evening. The wires all are in good shap and the connectors are real clean. So Im assuming that it is the sensor. One thing that I forgot to mention about it...the light isnt on all the time, I usually have to drive a few miles before it comes on, more recently it has been coming on when I start the truck though.
