2.5" lift/ level kit
So I have been looking into getting a 2.5 inch leveling kit for my 07 FX4. I am curious on what you guys have on your trucks and what is good and not good. A buddy of mine put a 2.5 inch level on his and it over extended the shocks and had to get new ones. I didn't want that to happen to mine. Has anybody else had this problem?

I'm not sure how the 2.5" level kit could overextend your shocks since it sits on top of the strut not the shock itself (has nothing to do with extending the shock - the shock and coil sit together)? For example: http://www.hellbentsteel.com/media/c...l_img004_1.jpg Sounds more like your friend wanted new shocks? haha
I have a 2.5" HBS level, the only complaint I have is that at 2.5" you get close to rubbing the coil spring with the upper control arm (which mine does). I haven't worried about it too much but I believe some people have changed to a different UCA.
Other issue I ran into is mine went too high in the front. I ended up changing to 3" blocks from the factory 1.5" blocks in the rear. I also have airbags but you have to ensure you can get extensions for that (depending on style you have).

Okay thanks for the great info guys! Haha I have no clue what happened with my friends truck then. Lol I have decided to bite the bullet and buy one! Now in just not sure what brand I should go with. I saw some good deals on eBay but I don't want to buy something that's going to crap out on me in no time. I have seen some threads on here about HBS level kits, any other negative comments? Some with Rough Country, anything bad about them?

Me and my dad both have had rough countrys for about a year with no problem. A friend of mine has had HBS on his with no problem also though. I would just search for the best deal and dont forget to get a front end alignment after installation.

Ok guys i'm going to piggyback onto this thread cause i've got a really similar question as he does. I'm also looking into a leveling kit and bigger more aggressive tires..have no idea what to get so i went to a local 4x4 shop and told them what i wanted.. he ran me a couple ideas.. 305 70 17 nitto grapplers and a 2" leveling kit with alignment and trimming and all that included for 1600 dollars. is that a good deal? sounds like ALOT in "labor costs" from what i've seen guys on here buy their leveling kits for

Just install the level yourself. It is easy and it will familiarize yourself with your truck. I am leveled with a 2.5" hbs and like previously mentioned, it will cause some fairly knarly angles, but it can be compensated for with uni ball upper control arms.

False. Any type of extended strut/coilover will push down the lower control arm (where the lift comes from) and as a result increase angles. The only way to prevent this is with a true lift with a dropped crossmember and lift knuckles.
