Default Paying someone to do the timing job with head problems -no

Since you are north of 100k with cam damage my bet would go reman , If truck otherwise in good shape .
That way you will get some warranty .
My timing job with new oil pump ,all rollers ,lash adjusters ,oem timing and phasors --parts$1400. Did it myself 130k now at 178k .

Mine had damaged roller no 8 intake, thrown clear no cam damage .
Too pricey with shop labor . Jasper with new intake $7500 installed . Power train motor around $3800 not installed . Ford installed reman around $6500--probably a powertrain source motor .
Forget used engines $2500 up with too many miles .
The core on yours around $600.
This engine labor eater nothing quick about it ,some shops won't touch them . You can bet you had oil flow problem carbon clogging screens etc starving heads for lube, blown tensioner seals ,plastic guide pieces clogging oil pickup screen . . . .
Not an easy decision . You still have to have new plugs ,boots ,clean intake/throttle body maybe new stainless exhaust man studs ,new injectors etc., redo linkage IRMC. . All the reasons I do it myself . This job requires a lot of cleaning Vcts bodies, lash wells ,pcv valve cover . Shops can't afford to do that .

Tomorrow, he's gonna let me tear down the front timing cover and dig into it myself to decide if it's just better to replace. He said if I go reman, he will let me transfer all parts to cut down on labor, hopefully getting the bill down either way.

Tore it all apart. Got a great deal from a friend on Ford parts, saved 500 bucks. I think all in new rockers, springs , phasers, cam, chains and guides, $3600. I'll get it back Tuesday.

After having it back for almost a week, it runs amazing and super quiet.

Ford obviously saw the defect as oil ports on rockers ate machined at an angle to get more to the metal on metal contacts. Too bad we have to be the lab rats for Ford.

I really need to get another 100k out of this to make it worthwhile, but so far so good.

I'd use a high quality full synthetic motor oil and the best oil filter you can find. Those little passages clog easily. otherwise you will be doing this again in another 100,000 mi. A well cared will easily do 250,000 mi with no more than just good maintenance. Hope this helps.

This truck has been babied maintenance wise since day one, always MC filter and syn blend. I think this is low oil pressure, the entire right side of the engine was a darker brown, no sludge, but very different color. If I get another 100k out of the engine, the body will rust away as it's gonna live by the ocean as of next month.

You're going to hate this, but I did almost the same job (minus cams) last year for less than a thousand in parts. I've seen OEM cams for less than $300 each....
But, with the tuner, hope you got some goooood cams in there.

Glad the truck is running right for you! That job sucks haaaarrrrddd.
