08 Lariat - SOL on plugs
So I've been having misfires lately and I'm guessing it's time to change out spark plugs. I start reading up on these nightmares, but think I might be fine since my truck is an 08. So I check my build date on the door and shows "09/07". Looks like my luck ran out and I have the old style heads that get the broken spark plugs, am I right?

Yeah, but don't sweat it too hard. Rent the extractor, take your time. 101 different opinions/tips to do this job.

Wait. Even if you have the old heads, don't you know how many miles are on the plugs? I'm mean if you're the original owner, have 120k miles, and never changed the plugs then you better worry. I'd at least start with an easy one to reach and as you start removing it, go back and forth, in and out and see if it comes out. Then you can see the part number on the plug. Who knows, maybe you have the new style?

Do yourself a favour and change the boots an springs on the COPs while you are at it. use dielectric grease on all openings to avoid moisture getting in. You can buy a set for about $30 and it is worth it while you have everything apart.

And it looks like I need the SP-515 spark plugs right?
Does anyone know the difference between these two Lisle tools?
Thanks.

If you care, here's what I did....
Ran two tank-fulls of a good quality fuel system cleaner. The day prior, I prepped the area by removing what needed to be removed, then sprayed PB blaster into the cylinder wells. The day of, I did another light spray of PB blaster about an hour before. Took some air, blew the holes out as best as I could. Some people say use a powered tool (air seems to be the consensus) to removed them, as supposedly the "shock" prevents them from becoming jammed/seized up. Me....I used a ratchet and extensions...they squealed like a pig headed to the chop house...but..none broke. Be sure to torque properly and get those holes as clean as you can before slapping new plugs in. I used a small amount of anti-seize on both plug changes. good luck...and we're here if you need any help. Oh...and...a shop vac with a small tube works well for sucking out ceramic.
