I have an 08 FX4 5.4L SCREW and the transmission just went out. It will no go in reverse and/or past 1st gear. After 1st gear, it just goes back in to what feels like neutral. Has anyone else had this problem and or any expert advice. I am the second owner and it is still under 50,000 miles. Would my truck still be under the power train warranty.

I heard these trucks sometimes just lose reverse. My 04 fx4 lost reverse prob 2 weeks after I got it and I had to have it rebuilt but your lucky if you got a warranty

 

First gear and reverse share bands and sprags. So if you lose one you lose the other. Drop the pan and see if its full of clutch material and/or metal shavings

 

Yeah I have it at the Ford house now. It is still under warranty Thank God. I don't know the specifics of what happened. My wife is dealing with the truck since I am in Afghanistan right now. Hopefully she understands enough to relay it to me.

 

I know man. It has 55,000 miles on it. I am glad it happened now and not 5,000 miles later.
