Default 08 F150 Only No Reverse

I have a 2008 F150, I was replacing the backup sensors on the rear and wanted to test them out. I got in the truck backed it up maybe 5 feet then acted as if it was in Neutral. I got out and check if I had backed over something but there was nothing there. I pulled it ahead and attempted it again and was still acting like it was in Neutral. I then got someone else to try and it backed up say another 5 feet then Neutral. Ever since it refuses to lock into Reverse. I’ve checked the Transmission fluid and it was low, as well as dark, but didn’t cause any problems before. Anyone know what’s going on? Ive heard could just be the fluid, could be the clutch as well as the “Reverse Belt/Bracket.” Thanks

Service your transmission.. also check the shift linkage on the tranny. Did the sensor work ?

Thanks for the response. I’m dropping the transmission pan tomorrow. Any indicators to look for near the filter? And yes the sensors did work when I put my hand behind them.

when you get under there to drop the pan … look at the shift lever.. plastic piece sometimes will break.

I will for sure. But wouldn’t the shift lever affect all gears including drive, currently it’s only Reverse that won’t work.

So I dropped them Pam and check then shift lever. Pan was black, no solid chunks or anything in the fluid. Magnet was full but no large pieces all fine and buttery. Starting to think it’s something electrical but not sure. New filter and new fluid tmr see if that does the trick.

Default Update

  • Transmission pan was pulled. No big or noticeable shards of metal, magnet was covered in a fine paste (Normal I believe)
  • Filter was removed and replaced with a new one
  • Cleaned gasket, and pan and hooked it back up
  • Filled with Transmission fluid
  • Went through all gears then tested Fluid and all was well.
  • Tried reverse, it did the exact same thing, went down in idol as if it was in gear but acted as if it was in Neutral
  • Scanned Transmission no codes
  • Scanned Engine no codes
Does anyone know what’s going on. All gears work except reverse!!!

You say the pan was black when you dropped it... not a good color ! may have burnt up reverse, sounds like the tranny has been neglected.
