Default On The Road Again...

Picked up the truck this past Monday afternoon. Driving out of the driveway - **first impressions**; very tight, low/mild exhaust rumble, great power. At a stop (with the windows down), no more engine noise.

Went directly to get a 'Smog Test', to get the truck re-registered. I was a little concerned because of the the new JBA headers and Magnaflow Cats... The truck PASSED smog test! So those of you that are in states (especially California) that have strict (or very strict) emission laws, these products performed as advertised - CARB II California Compliant.

With my wife (she describes the exhaust note as a "soft rumble") and my son's girlfriend, we drove the truck yesterday on a 200 mile round-trip, to pick up my son at Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base, after a nine month deployment (what a GREAT day.. joy, humbling pride - U.S. Marines are an extra ordinary bunch, In & Out Burgers etc).

The engine performed exceedingly well - NO issues at all... stable temps and pressures, per OEM Ford cluster gauges.

While I have less than 300 miles on the engine, I am very pleased with my decision to purchase the 5.4 re-manufactured engine from Powersource and the installation performed by my mechanic.

I will provide a list of items, I had replaced, in another post.

Until then, here are some pics (as I previously stated in another post) of the exhaust and Cats and Stainless exhaust tip, that **someone** told me adds 150 HP

And lastly some after Clay-bar, wax & polish..

Final Glamour Shot..

I am so jealous! When it comes time for me I pray I find a mechanic as good as the one you used.
Please post a cold start and normal video

If I can figure out how to post a video(s), I will certainly do that, as the engine/exhaust rumble sounds especially good at start-up.

As far as finding a good mechanic, I did not want to use a shop that mainly performs general automotive maintenance.

My thought process was, to call local shops that build racing engines; knowing that they are meticulous in how they do their job. While they were nice enough to speak with me, they basically said that my request was **below** of what they do. So I said fine, recommend someone, that would be able to fulfill my request. With that, I was recommended to a specialty shop that works on classic/muscle cars, hot rods, suspension updates, electrical etc, that gladly and professionally worked with me. I conveyed what I wanted and they delivered. If anyone is in Southern California and more specifically the San Gabriel Valley area, I would highly recommend Retts Automotive, in Irwindale, CA.

While as a younger man I did replace my engine in my '74 Chevy Stepside truck - 327 V8, my time is taken-up rebuilding/rewinding these type of **motors**...

Anyhoo, I will be performing the 500 mile oil change in about a week and at that time provide another update(s).

Glad it's working out. I'm a little concerned you jumped in on a 200 mile trip right out of the gate. The break-in procedure states no continuous high speeds for the first 500 miles.

"Drive normally but not at continuous high speeds or under heavy loads for the first 500 miles. Change oil and filters after 500 miles."

Well... I hope I didn't shoot myself in the foot .

I did try to rev up and down and not keep at a constant speed.

I will be going in for the 500 mile oil/filter change, probably in about 7-10 days, as I am at just over 300 miles already driven.

Thanks Czuber for your mindfulness.

Did your mechanic do the break in procedure in the shop? Ford dealership did with mine when they installed it. Truck was full when I took it in, and nearly empty when I picked it up. They did fill it back up once I pointed it out to them.

My mechanic did have the truck for a couple of days (after the installation), doing diagnostics and road testing. I will ask him specifically today, what *exactly* was performed during his time with the truck, for those couple of days.

I did check the oil again today, and it is at the same level, as the first day I picked up the truck. The oil color is as-new.

Thanks tuflehundon (or Devil Dog )

Default **UPDATE** Powersource 5.4 V8 Re-manufactured Engine

Hello Mike3987,

As of today, I have put approximately 12,740 miles on the Powersource re-manufactured engine, in almost nine months.

The engine has performed flawlessly... no hiccups whatsoever.

If I do have any disappointment, the MPG is not any better than the original engine. During the past summer months (when the engine was only 2-4 months **old** and using the AC daily), I was only seeing 15 MPG. I really have not kept track of the MPG, now that I am not using the AC, during these cooler months and the engine is now more 'broken-in'.

I am using AMSOIL full synthetic oil in the engine, transmission (that was completely overhauled at the same time of engine replacement) and differential.

To sum up, I would recommend the Powersource engine; as I received the engine and deposit back, on time and is performing GREAT.

If you have questions, I will do my best to answer them.

I wish you the best, as the whole process was a great experience and I hope your engine replacement, is as successful as mine was/is.
