07 to 04 5.4 motor swap
I'm thinking about purchasing an 04 extended cab parts truck for my 08 super crew f150. Anyone know if the motor and Trans will line up without issues?

Should be a direct fit except for the drive shaft and if you have 4WD.

I'll be in this boat here soon. Closing a deal on a lariat supercrew 2004. Needs a motor. Right now I'm researching if the trannys are the same. I know I'm 2006+ they used the 4R75E and 2004-2005 used 4R75W

Id try and find an 08 truck. You're going back to the old plug design and the most problematic phaser era...But yes, it will fit fine.

Would anyone know if reman motors come with the new design 08 motors?
|
Also would anyone know if the expedition used the same motor and tranny? All the f150 in Pittsburgh have been stripped

A reman will come with everything you need except the valve covers. 07-09 valve covers have fixed vct seals were 04-06 have removable seals for easier vct solenoid maintenance. Oil pan on 04 model only includes a oil temp sensor in the pan. You will need to reuse your intake manifold, and valve covers.. All driveline accessories including your water pump, AC, alternator etc will need to be reused or replaced.. What I recommend for "easier to replace it while your at it parts is.."OEM or better" New flexplate and bolts New starter Oil dipstick Water pump Short tube headers (stainless) All pulley bearings.. ^^^ this will ensure nearly zero post install issues^^^ . |
This project could turn into a nightmare. The owner who has a garage, already pulled the motor, and completely tor it down. I mean when he took me to the engine. I saw a block, leaning against the wall, with heads and cams next to it. On the other side of the garage was the accessories and "everything else". The owner seems really helpful and said if I need help with anything he wouldn't leave me hanging. But I was trying to buy a whole doner truck and see how the stuff came apart. As I've learned before. If I didn't take it out, it could be a challenge to put back in

Reman motors will use same plugs as all other 5.4 3v.. sp515 or autolite HT0 plug.. The boots on the coils were the only change.
