Default '06 FX4 5.4 ceased engine!!

Hello everyone, I joined today in the hopes that I could trouble the lot of you for a little advice. Long story short, my mother's '06 FX4 5.4 is dead, and she has put me in charge of getting rid of it. She was driving it down the interstate when it died, she had it towed to the local for dealer, and they simply told her that the engine "ceased up," and there was nothing they could do about it. They then proceeded to offer her $500 for the clunker. My question to you is: Is this a fair price? I haven't the foggiest idea what to do with it otherwise. What would you do? Please help! Thanks.

p.s. For your reference, the model is an '06 FX4 5.4 Triton Supercab, stepside, leather, sunroof, running boards, power seats / windows, with 145,000 miles on it.

$500?! No, that's not fair at all... They'll drop a new engine in there and get at least $8K. I think you could part it out and get WAY more than $500. Assuming the body is good, I bet you could sell it on craigslist and get at the very least $4000

Put it back on the tow truck and get a second opinion. Seems sketchy they would just tell you it's seized and no other explanation then offer you a measly 5 Hun for it. The rims are worth about that!

If you were to scrap it $500 would be about what you'd expect to get for it. It's worth so much more for the parts alone, if the engine is indeed shot as mentioned above the dealer would just drop a jasper engine in and sell the truck for a good 12-13k making a nice profit. The NADA on that truck is priced at $15.7k

Engines Direct sells a Ford longblock for $2799, just put one in my '04. Keep it.
