Default 06, AC pulley squeaking pretty good..

Just started today. When the compresser kicks in so the whole thing turns, it's quiet. Then as soon as it free wheels, with only the center turning with the belt, then it's squeaks pretty good. Sounds likes steel on steel squeal. Is there a bearing in there or what am I looking at to get it fixed? Looks like a pain in the butt to get to too... Safe to drive like this if I have to or no?

Thanks!

Sounds like bearing going out in compressor. If it decides to seize, it will smoke your belt.

Yep. I did this exact fix a few months ago! Pull your belt and get underneath. Then unbolt the center nut, then pull off the clutch. Be careful to het the shim when u do that. Buy or rent and ac clutch pulley puller. Pull that off. Then as i did use a vice and large socket to push out the old bearing and use a vice to press in the new one and reassemble. There is an air gap that u must be sure to measure between the pulley and ac clutch. Id tell you but im not certain just look it up easy to find. Any other questions feel free to ask.

Well i broke down and brought it away to get looked at. Apparently the bearing is fine. Shop said the ac clutch was just out of adjustment. No parts needed. So that's good! Pick er up tomorrow.

I'm having a similar issue that I'm looking into solving. I'm not too familiar with the AC compressor/pulley system so please educate me if anyone can! I did change the accessory belt around 10-15K miles ago and it works just fine.

The pulley only squeaks when the AC is on. But my issue sounds opposite from your description. When the front of the pulley spins, I hear a high pitched noise that lasts for 2-5 seconds. It happens every 10-20 seconds or so while the AC is operating. I'm wondering what I should be looking into for replacing or repairing parts. Any help is much appreciated!
