I was assuming by "selector switch" he was referring to the neutral safety switch I'd suggested looking at, in which case I 100% stand by my emphatic "no." You know as well as I that there is a threshold to be reached before throwing a code, during which time crappy performance occurs...

so a little update...the trans was rebuild 60k ago and my brother parked the truck for 3 years becouse it started whining and his buddy said it was junk i got the truck..put a new filter and fluid in it and the whinning went away and it works fine exept the post above...drove it lil bit it all good...doesnt slip or nothing but does go into reverse a lil slow i think that is becouse i over filled it by maybe half court fluid...there was nothing in pan but some stuff on the magnet that resembled anitsieze was told that is normal...no band materail nothing so i think i got lucky it was just a gloged bad filter becouse it just fell out with no force when i droped the pan...now the new on was so hard to put in i had to use a lil bottle jack and piece of wood to press it in thing i dont get is the code on door and in the manual it says the truck has a 4r75e in it but filter was for a 4r70w i believe i take it those filters are all the same or is the info on the door and book wrong it is a 05 with 5.4 4x4

The "antisieze" on the drain plug is metal shavings from the transmission sticking to the magnet in the pan.

There's an o-ring, typically orange, that you should have removed with the old filter. It sits up high on the neck of the filter when inserted into the valve body of the transmission.

You may have installed the new filter with a new o-ring, possbily doubling up on them.

I'd recommend to check the dipstick and see if you indeed did overfill, and if so, remove the pan again to correct the fluid level and at the same time, pull the filter back out and check if you have two of the o-rings installed.

There's no way you should need a bottle jack to install the filter.

that is what i thought lol...the old filter has the orange seal on it...i couldnt push the new one in by hand so i used the bottle jack to do it lol..i will check level and suck any out if it is over filled i do think i did put lil to much in it...as for the drain plug there is no plug have to take pan off to drain...was told the antisieze looking stuff on magnet was normal for a rebuilt trans with 60k on it...i think the filter was clogged and bad it was sucking air and making the pump whine and not go into gear when it hot..was starving for fluid..but it wierd that the filter is for a diff trans but has the same.numbers on it and is the same filter..it is working fine see how long that lasts lol

Well, it's not antiseize looking stuff on that magnet, it's metal shavings held together by transmission fluid and the magnetic field. It's only normal in the sense of normal wear and tear.

I was watching line pressure last night and thought about this post. Unless you have figured out the issue, this could be what you are feeling.

First gear at idle is 260 psi.

Second gear at idle is 176.

At full throttle your truck will shift into second at 396 psi. It drops to about 200 at the shift point. Starting in second it starts out at 176 psi. That is the lagging feeling you're getting. It's because the transmission pressure is 1/3 lower than it usually is in second.
