05 F150 rebuild or new motor
I have owned this truck about 3 months now and within this time I have replaced the battery, two starters, rear end seal, two window motors, 4wd actuator, and now for the biggest headache of them all. I noticed the diesel sound coming out of my engine bay and with slight acceleration the clacking coming from under the valve covers. Knowing about the phaser problems on the 04-05 3v's, I specifically told them to check that out. I got a call back 3 days later from them telling me they fixed the timing but didn't take the time to pull out the phasers, so with an *** chewing and free labor they pulled it back apart and replaced the phasers. With the timing and phasers "done" the they decide to check the oil pressure. After running for 5-10 minutes they told me the oil pressure would drop drastically. Needless to say, I have a $1700 bill for that, and now they gave me a couple prices on options to go with for either a rebuild or new motor because of a spun bearing. My truck is spotless with only 61,000 miles on it and it only has 4800 miles more than it had 3 months ago when I picked it up from the dealership. With that low of miles, I'm thinking a rebuild sounds like the most reasonable choice. I got a quote from a Motor Service and it came out to be around 6000$ with my other work done on it and from Ford with a 3 year unlimited mile warranty it would be around $7500. I should be making my decision tomorrow but I was just curious as to what you guys thought of the whole ordeal and if anyone has run into the same problems.
