Cool 04 f150 FX4 door lock not catching

my RF passenger door has issues. It closes and opens, but its kinda "mushy?" its hard to explain, but you know the click/bump you get when you open a door? this one is like softer and doesn't seem like "as much" is being unlatched internally. I don't know if its the lock, the actuator, etc. When you are sitting in the RF and want to get out you pull on the latch but it doesn't open and you have to pretty much throw your shoulder into the door to get it to open. any help would be appreciated. I got this truck 5 months ago and just had to put in a new tranny 3 weeks ago, and 2 months previous a mass air flow sensor, coils, boots. almost $4k in 5 months... really starting to question my purchase....tell me that ford trucks are not like this and that I just had a run of bad luck??

Does the door drop down a little when you open it? Can you feel any play in it if you lift up on it? Could be your hinges are sagging.

Take the door panel off, it's extremely easy. The rod that opens the latch is either a little bent or the actuator is loose. Both easy fixes.
Btw, I just had my tranny rebuilt this week, so I feel your pain.

Thanks for the reply guys. Sorry for the delay in response, working tons of OT to pay off the new tranny lol. I don't think its the door hinges b/c it closes flush, no moisture leaking or anything, so I think its got a good seal. I'm thinking masitile might have hit the nail on the head. If i ever get a day off with time to tinker w/the door I'll give it a try. Do I need to unscrew the armrest on the door and take of the plastic wrap too to get to the bits & pieces I need to?

The armrest stays on the panel. There is a cap behind the door handle and it'll expose one or two bolts. When you take the door panel off the handle will stay attached to the inner part of the door it'll just hang loose, just have to work it thru the opening when you take the panel off.
Unfortunately you will have to peel the poly back (and it doesn't like to stick again) to get to the mechanism.
