Exclamation 04 F150 Fx4 5.4L A/C blowing HOT!!!!!!

Woohoo first post! First off I have a 2004 F150 Fx4 5.4L Triton. I was having performance issues ..changed the sparkplugs and ignition coils boom runs better .. second issue was overheating at idle and stop/go traffic. Its the heat of the summer here in Georgia averaged 100F at mid day.. changed the thermostat, water pump, fan clutch, belt and did a radiator flush. Overheating did not occur at all today so I'm hoping that problem was fixed.. my issue now is my truck is blowing hot air even on max AC I have no idea where to start. Used a r-134a gauge to check the refrigerant levels and it was wayyy over into the red. Let some r-134a out the system til it was back down to optimal levels. Any ideas out there..I have a 2yr old son and it is way to hot to be driving him around in this heat. Thanks for all who stop by my post!

Is the compressor cycling on when the AC is turned on? Welcome to the site by the way.

This may be a shot in the dark. I'm no master in AC because I took it off my truck. But I would assume their is a valve that opens and closes that lets hot coolant into the heater core. I assume if that valve is stuck open due to crud and corrosion the cold air from your AC is getting blown through the heater core making it hot. Anyone else want to chime in?

If your ac compressor isn't running while you are charging it. It will show red on the gauge.as soon as it starts cycling it will drop into an area that's not red, I went thru an entire can of the refridgerant before it started cycling had to buy another to get the correct pressure. So don't be afraid to use the whole can. Welcome to the site btw, as others have said lots of good info on here

Did it work last year? Does the compressor cycle? Are you original owner? Any previous ac work done?

I would: clean condenser, evacuate, change fov, evacuate and recharge to correct amount. More 134a is not better! If it is or was overcharged the high pressure switch was protecting the system.

im not the original owner but I have owned the truck since 2006 and I know for a fact in the 10 years its been mine it has not had any a/c work done on it. the truck is sitting at 249000 miles right now. thing that's weird to me is last week the air would be somewhat cool when driving but if I was in stop and go traffic or idling my truck would overheat in a matter of minutes and then it would blow out hot air. but since then I have replaced the thermo, the water pump, fan clutch and belt. also washed the radiator down real good it was caked in dirt ( truck has seen tons of mud and dirt over the years I'm on the family farm everyday ). I also did complete coolant flush. my truck doesn't over heat anymore but thing is now its blowing hot air all the time..strange to me. its cooler outside than it is in my truck with max ac on

as far as the compressor cycling I'm pretty sure it is It sounds like it cuts on but in the morning I'm going to get down to it and verify that it is cutting on and off

Dryer at the very least may need replacement, especially if its the original.
