04 F-150 Mystery Vibration Problem
#11
mturi - FWIW, regarding the parking brake, I too use mine often, and it doesn't stick all the time, just occasionally. Also, it really doesn't grab enough that you have any indication it is braking related nor does it "feel" like it is coming from the rear, it just shakes the heck out of the truck!

When you experienced this problem, did it vibrate/shudder when you started driving immediately after releasing the brake or did it just happen suddenly while you were driving? I will take a closer look at this either way.
Thanks

Typically I will have the parking brake set, release it, then drive a couple minutes in town, the brakes start heating up and then the shudder/vibration starts. Varies depending on how tight the brake is stuck.

I have an 04 that had the same problem and the issue was a bad coil. What you are experiencing probably feels like when you drive over highway rumble strips, happens for 2 or 3 seconds and completely disappears. When it begins to get worse, your truck will jolt occassionally and it will fee like a transmission problem. This crap will drive you nuts until you get a check engine light. You may want to try driving on the highway with the OD disengaged as this will cause the what is a misfire to become more pronounced and may set off the engine light faster. My local dealership was ready to take my transmission appart for this. After about two months with the problem the CEL identified the cylinder and the fix was 10 minutes and $25. You may want to check other threads for "low grade misfire"

I am going to have the rear brakes replaced very soon and will ask that they check the parking brake. My problem seems to have disappeared on it's own for the last 250 miles so it either was not brake related or the sticking may have stopped. I have continued to use the parking brake this whole time and can't get the problem to happen. In a way it's a good thing but I have a feeling it is not gone forever.

Thanks for sharing that news. At least you found it quickly and inexpensively!
My dealer wanted to replace the ABS module as a guess but I had a hunch it may have been the parking brake as mentioned above by member "FLSTS". I have not used the parking brake for the last few months and drove over 700 miles without the problem. I am pretty convinced at this point.
