04 5.4 3v repeated cam phaser failure

Just to touch on the original topic, I would rebuild the timing system using motorcraft, even if you plan on locking the phasers out. This time around, I would take the vct valve body off and clean the oil passages out. If those get restricted, you'll have oil flow issues even with good pressure.

Guys, this exact scenario plays out every day on our phones all day long. Once a truck fails the VCT system its just fails quicker and quicker each time you put new parts in it. Even replacing everything with brand new OEM Ford parts doesn't fix anything, you're just putting in parts that are at the high side of the spec. The issue is since everything else is at the low side, these components are taxed harder than normal, causing them to fail sooner with each subsequent replacement.
This is why we came out with our cam phaser noise repair kit. Its the only way to permanently fix this issue so it's impossible to fail the VCT system.

Just had my engine rebuilt and added your lock-out system, what weight oil should/can I run now?

As for those recommending replacing the entire VCT system, it will provide a temporary fix. But I do stress temporary. We have had people call and say it lasted anywhere from a year to a few hours, but it never lasts terribly long. Why spend thousands on a temporary fix, when you can spend $700 and never worry about it again?
