so the rim size makes no difference in how much closer the tire is to the fenders?

No real difference. Tire diameter is tire diameter. 35" on a 15" wheel and a 35" tire on a 22" wheel are going to be damn near the same. Only thing that can affect tire height is wheel width stretching the sidewalls out more or less than another tire.

I'd do it. Tires have become cheaper for 20s than 18s anyway, which is stupid IMO, but apparently 20s are more populous than 18s now. Except maybe you have 17s, can't remember.

No, not for inch measurements. A 35 inch tire is 35 inches tall regardless of the rim diameter. Metric tire measurements will be taller for a larger rim diameter if all the other measurements remain the same.

An inch measurement such as 35x12.5R18 indicates that the tire is 35 inches tall, 12.5 inches wide and will fit an 18 inch rim. 35x12.5R20 indicates that the tire is 35 inches tall, 12.5 inches wide and will fit a 20 inch rim. These two tires are the same size but have a difference size hole in the middle for the rim.

A metric measurement such as 315/70R18 indicates that the section width is 315mm and the sidewall aspect ratio is 70 (The sidewall height from rim to tread is 70% of the section width) and will fit an 18 inch rim. This tire is equal to 35.36x12.40R18 in inch measurements.

If you compare that to a 315/70R20 (same section width and aspect ratio but for a larger rim) the inch equivalent would be 37.36x12.40R20 (taller but same width). In order to go up in rim size in metric measurements you have to reduce the sidewall aspect ratio. Aspect ratios go up, or down, in increments of 5 so the closest tire for a 20 in rim would be 315/60R20, which works out to be 34.88x12.40R20. It is a little smaller but only slightly and these measurements don't tend to be exact anyway.

I may even buy 2 of the tailgate F150 badges that are on the lower left and use them on the fenders. Hate the little lip that has 5.4 on it.
It took me a while to pull the trigger on painting my badges because I didn't like the idea of having that lip either. I looked around for inserts/overlays that included the "XLT 5.4 TRITON" text but couldn't find them anywhere. I ordered a set without the bottom text off eBay but didn't end up using them. In the end I got my own made at a local vinyl shop. I think it cost me about $30 (CDN) for all three so it was a little more than the eBay overlays but not much. I actually feel like my decals were a better fit anyway and I'm really happy with the end results.

I have attached the PDF that I sent to the vinyl shop in case it can help you in any way. Sorry, I have an XLT so that's what mine says, no FX2

Nope you can have a 15" rim and 35" tire or a 22" rim and a 35" tire and the tire will be the same height. And that's the look I prefer a 22 on a 35" tire. The only thing that could change where the tire sits is backspace but not height.

yea i have 17's. i prefer more tire than rim but to me the screws are big and 17's look tiny on our trucks. so thats why i think i needa go with 20's to make it blend in bettee. i just cant decide wat tires i want or what offset on rims

Thanks man, I really am pleased with it. Just enough chrome on the rims to meet my fancy and I love the 35s cause I mean, hell, who doesn't always want as big as they can go? Lol. Should be getting some Toyo MTs the end of this week. Found a guy up in Washington state that quoted me an unbeatable price for 35x12.50x20s so I took a shot and ordered them. Hoping he is credible but we will see! He seems legit, just isn't a big business and I'm always a little skeptical with my money, lol.

This is what I run and in no way, shape or form does it appear anywhere near stuffed. Yeah, I may be running the same size tires as most guys with a 6" lift or more but our trucks have the ability to do it and still look great. It is all matter of opinion and I respect yours but I just don't see my truck having the "stuffed" appearance.. To each his own though brother. I love my 35s on 20s.
