Default Are you happy with your truck?

I've been bitten by a bug lately to trade in my current truck ('07 Dakota V8) as I haven't been happy with it for the almost 4 years I've owned it. I've been pretty set on getting away from the Dodges, and I've never been a GM fan as just about everyone I know has a lot of issues with them, and the quality seems poor.

So I've been pretty well decided on an F150. I used to own a 2001 5.4L SC 4x4 and I really liked it. This time around I'm looking for a SuperCrew 5.0 4x4 with 3.73's and a tow package. I found a really nice 2011 XLT Offroad that is exactly that, and will be going to check it out this weekend.

I started reading on here and have found out about the shuddering and knocking issues that are out there. Also the slip yoke problem, which I had on a Ranger several years ago. I didn't expect these trucks to have these issues and it's kinda scared me off a little bit.

My question is, are you happy with your trucks? If you have these issues, would you buy the same truck again if you knew about it ahead of time? I feel like I really should put this truck through it's paces during the test drive now to try and produce these problems, but I'm afraid I won't be able to and will find them after it's already too late.

I don't want to regret buying one of these. I sort of regretted buying my Dakota because I've had to put a fair amount of money into repairs even though I maintain it meticulously, and I don't want to deal with that again.

What problems including what I mentioned above should I look for, and are there good trucks out there that don't have these problems, or is it an across the board issue with them?

I've had mine for almost 2 years and 30k miles and I still try to find a reason to drive it all the time. You are right about the known issues. I've had a few including the slip yoke but this is by far my favorite vehicle I've owned. Just do your homework and you'll be fine. Good luck.

Yeah the one I'm going to look at has 29k miles, so I'm hoping any issues it have already reared their ugly heads so I find them. I pretty much have avoided the Ecoboost because of the issues people are having with them as well(plus I don't need it, the 5.0 with 3.73's will tow what I need), and was surprised to see some 5.0 issues as well. Now that I know about the shuddering issue I'll have to make sure I can get it out to highway speeds to check on that. The slip yoke problem will be easy to find, especially since I've experienced it before a long time ago.

Other than the slip yoke, shudder, and knocking are there any other issues with these trucks I should know about?

I've had a 2010 Ford F150 and now have a 2013 F150. The 2010 had 67,000 miles when I sold it. It had its few issues, but compared to the problems we were having with my brothers 2007 Sierra 1500 and my 2011 Ram 3500 farm truck, they were nothing. My 2013 had the shutter issue within a few thousand miles. Good thing I bought from a good dealership, brought it in and the next day it was fixed. All trucks are going to have issues and also realize this. This forum is just a small percentage of F150 owners. Also, there is alot of guys on here with issues. Thats because the few guys that have had issues with their trucks came to the forum for help. If you buying from a dealership, make sure they have a reputable service department. If your buying from private party, I would befriend a service manager just incase. It doesn't matter which way you go, your getting a good truck and supporting a North American Autoworker. Thanks and good luck!

I despise this piece of **** I drive and loathe my choices that forced my hands to own it. I can't wait to get back into a 3/4 ton diesel 4wd. I've always hated half tons and after owning one I hate them even more. I'd trade this truck off in a heart beat if the right deal came along.

Honestly, I'm shocked that you are having problems. Perhaps because you are used to a bigger truck? I moved up to a 2012 FX4 EB max tow from a Tacoma and can't even contemplate returning. Up to 22K now and have absolutely no problems. Love the truck.

I am used to a bigger truck. Grew up with 3/4-1 ton diesel 4wd trucks. My first truck was a 3/4 ton 4wd diesel. My last one was a 2011 3/4 ton powerstroke lariat. My hand was forced to trade it in on this half ton. I hate this truck but I'm stuck with it for the next 10 years or so so I'm trying to like it. A few thousand more dollars and I should be content. Hopefully by then someone will have an upgraded turbo kit for it so I can drop this thing into the 11s and be happy with it.

Iv'e had my 2011 5.0 scab for a year. It has a little over 11,000 miles on it now and I haven't had any problems whatsoever. It is the nicest, most comfortable, most powerful vehicle I have ever owned. I look forward to driving it every day.
My puppy dog loves riding in it too. She jumps around from seat to seat looking out the windows whenever we go for a ride.

I'll summarize my 1.5 years of owning my truck to three words.

Absolutely love it.

I have had my 2011 screw FX4 5.0 for 2 years and 35,000 trouble free miles. I like it so much I'm getting a new 2013 FX4. The only reason I'm getting the 2013 is because I'm getting an awesome deal on it or I would keep my truck for at least 5 more years.
