That means I would have only gone 520 miles on a 26 gallon tank of gas. I went 136.1 miles further than I would have driving my truck with an open bed.

So you divide 136.1 by 20mpg = 6.8 gallons of gas. Lets say gas is $3.50 a gallon. 6.8 x $3.50 = $ 23.80. You will pay for the lid pretty fast with this kind of savings.
It would take 2+ years to pay it off in gas savings assuming that a person fills up once a week and does all highway driving...also this would increase based on cab size i.e SCrew, 4X4 vs. 4X2, etc....

Default It isn't for everybody.

I just know I can drive 130 miles further on a tank of gas than I could if I didn't have it on my truck.

My 2009 is rated at 20 mpg by the EPA. I never consistantly got that kind of mileage with my open bed. Bob Mac is right about the pay off time but what if fuel goes back to $4.00 a gallon or more.

This product is for those of use who want and use a camper shell. The roof can be raised and two fabric sides and a rear hatch can be deployed to make a camper configuration. You can haul cargo or camp in it like this.

The roof can also be removed if you want to haul taller cargo without having to remove the whole shell.

A regular camper shell actually hurts fuel economy by creating a larger low pressure region behind the truck as it moves through the air.

You just did this to your truck. Next thing you know your gonna be slapping some spandex on the F150 and wondering is the drag co-efficient of your nuts is worth it... LOL...

When I first saw it I thought well I could see using it as a camper but I wouldn't drive around with that on there all the time so I'd have to store it.

I put about 450 miles on my truck last weekend running back and forth from our local race track (Mosport) and averaged 28 mpg Imperial or 23.5 US cruising at 65 -75 mph. That's with a 2010 S-Cab, XLT, 4.6, 3.55, 2WD.

Been thinking about getting a truck tent because I don't feel like sleeping in the car trailer full of tires and oil and other crap but the trip to and from the track is only about 75 minutes each way so I can live with the drive and the cost of fuel.
