XLT vs Lariat
Ok, so I'm about to order a new 2013 F150 Supercrew 4wd. I can't decide between a loaded XLT or a low end Lariat.
My Lariat would have the mid equipment package, Elock, heat/cool seats and the green gem two tone as I have had green trucks since 1986. The new Kodiak Brown looks good but doesn’t have that deep color depth like the green does. My wife likes the KB the best, but sometimes it looks like a dirty/dusty black truck.
I have good dealer connections and can get a great deal on the low end Lariat and on the loaded XLT .Any way you cut it, the Lariat is 5K more than the XLT, I'd love the Lariat with cool seats, but I can mod the XLT with 2tone lower paint and street flares for $1200, good leather covers for $450, level 2 inches and add 33-34 inch tires and still be way under the Lariat.
Is there something inherently wrong with this?
I’ve searched and cannot find where the XLT has been modified with the intent of making it look like a Lariat.
I can afford either one, but I’m too thrifty to go excessive on cost, and would rather get the XLT scratched up a little in the hunting woods than a Lariat (If she lets me take it to the woods.). If I went all out for the Lariat, I'd be reluctant to spend any more money on mods.
I just don’t see 5k more of a truck in a Lariat

I just bought a new FX4 and like a previous poster indicated I decided to spend a bit more and get everything I wanted instead getting rid of the truck in a few years to upgrade again. I love the flow through counsel compared to the front bench of my XLT. The whole truck is just more comfortable.

I have a lariat and my neighbor has an xlt. I love my lariat but the main parts I love is the reverse camera, and power adjust seats. Now my wife loves the heated /cooled seats but I rarely use them. I'm not sure what comes in a loaded xlt but I think I would go that route with the ecoboost ( save the extra from the lariat and spend a little more on the engine). I would change to the bolt in center console and be done. I guess another question would be do you like a column shifter or a console shifter?

Yeah, that's a hard choice, having had both I currently love my 12 XLT. The reverse sensing is nice, but I'd rather have the reverse camera that my FX4 had. That's the only thing I really miss. Leather I can add on, heated and cooled seats I never used either. I am considering the console swap. I like the center seat with the extra storage under and the pull out cup holder tray but like the look of the console better. Mine has the factory trailer brake booster so I'm good there, just wish it had the electric locker.
For me, it wasn't worth the extra money just to get the reverse camera. Everything else I can add on for less cash then the lariat. Just me though.
