Default XLT black mesh/chrome grill....

yall ever seen this? I think they took the black mesh out of the base grill and mixed it with the bars on the XLT. I like this look better than my XLT grill with the chrome mesh. Might consider popping out the mesh and painting it or having it powder coated. Thoughts?

That is the standard XLT grille. I have it on my truck and it looks great. The grille you are talking about was part of the chrome package which includes chrome side step bars, chrome and black handles, chrome tow hooks, chrome clad wheels, and the aforementioned chrome grille with chrome slats.

Now, PTM the surround, and it'll really look great.
I won't say who the member is, but pretty sure he'll see this and have something to say. His looks killer on a Ruby Red.
I'm doing something similar. My'13 FX2/FX4 grille will be here today, and hopefully next week, the surround will be PTMed.
All I need to do next is get those two bars, with the end caps, in chrome, and I'll be in business.
And yes, paint the mesh black.
You may be better off, don't throw rocks, to Plastidip that mesh. Prepping that chrome properly would be a nightmare.
I don't know about powdercoat, can it be done over the plastic chrome?

I have that grill and dipped most of it. Really like the look. I am considering peeling the dip off of the 'C' bars though.

Just did a little reading about chroming and powder coating plastic. Yes, it can be done. The trick is to make the plastic conductive. On bare plastic, a conductive coating is applied after acid cleaning, then the chrome is applied. Appears to be the same process for powder coating.
The chroming is expensive, and I have to think the powder coating would be as well.

Do it! That little bit of chrome would look good.

Hope this is related and not hijacking thread.

If I may ask, What is PTM? I've seen it mentioned before but haven't been able to see what it is. I have a Ruby Red Lariat & I've been on the hunt for a RR surround for quite a while.
Thank you.

PTM = Paint To Match

So PTM a mirror cap from the textured black finish to body color.

Do you guys know, can you actually take these grills apart? IE, separate the mesh-type backing from the surround and the C/bars
