Default Would you go a year without changing oil?

I bought a used 2013 5.0l with 35,xxx miles on odometer. I knew previous owner who had it since new. He switched to full synthetic miles ago. I currently put about 5,000 miles a year on my trucks. I do some light towing in the summer (2000lbs) on occasion. The guy I bought it from changed the oil in January at about 35K miles. Would I be o.k. to go a full year before changing at around the 5k mark?

Most my trips are under 20 miles at a time. Garage kept so winter starts aren't usually too extreme.

I am thinking about switching back to Motorcraft semisynthetic oil so take that into consideration. Thanks

I do. Truck gets serviced every October, Mustang gets serviced in April. Synthetics are able to easily protect for a year.

I dont think I would. If youre using good synthetic oil then I think you could get away with it but definitely not with conventional as it would break down long before then I would think. I would change it every 6 months personally. If for no other reason than peace of mind.

As far as the oil, I perused around on Bob is the Oil Guy forum a few years ago when I had my Edge and turns out Motorcraft is actually very good oil. Those guys send samples of their used oil off to a lab for testing and its actually a pretty interesting read. Im still debating if I want to take my truck to the dealer for its services or just do them myself. If I do them myself, Ill be using Mobil 1 or Penzoil Platinum but Id have no qualms using the Motorcraft stuff at the dealer.

Easily a year. Oil life indicator will trip at a year. I am 16 months on mine, 4,500 miles. Will change it this summer. Semi synthetic in now, will put in full synthetic.

Wife's car generally makes short trips and never exceeds 5000 miles/year. Oil & filter changes are annual, (using conventional oil). IMO Summertime sees this car's oil warming up often enough to vaporize water/fuel and burn it off via the PCV valve. Springtime changes were chosen to replace winter's greater moisture/fuel contaminated oil with fresh.

I could do it right now and be fine, I only drive 10k a year. But I change it about every 9k with a new filter every 3k. MC SB

The condensation is a worry for me but I try to put a good 30- 40 mile trip a month on it just to burn some off. I wonder if synthetic resist the moisture better than conventional?

If i switch to Motorcraft, I will perform 6 month oil changes myself at about the 2500 mile marker. That is still really early with lots of oil life left. I want to swtich back from Mobil 1 because I too read positive things about Motorcraft. Not that Mobil1 is bad, but for the much lower cost of Motorcraft at WalMart, it would be less of a waste of money changing it every 6 months than dumping the more expensive Mobil1 out every 6 months.

I am not trying to avoid oil changes because I do enjoy performing them. I just don't want to waste money.

I was changing the oil in my grandmother's Buick every 3 months when I realized she was putting less than 1000 miles on it between oil changes. I switched her to Mobil 1 Extended Performance and just changed it every March from there on out. Did that for 3 years. No problems.
