Default Would highway tires on a lifted truck look dumb?

So I have a 4" lift and was running Cooper ST Maxx 295/70/18. The tires are wearing poorly and I may get new ones soon. I was considering the Michelin Defender LTX M/S http://www.discounttire.com/dtcs/fin...=TSWINT&cs=295 in that size instead of something more aggressive since I rarely go offroad.

Like the topic says, would that look dumb?

I don't think so. I know plenty of guys that take MTs off after hunting season. Running donuts on a lifted truck is a different story.

If your tires are wearing poorly there is probably an underlying problem elsewhere. If you are sick of the humming, why not try a quiet aggressive looking all terrain like the KO2? I have them on 2 of my trucks and love them, they are quiet and get great traction almost everywhere. To answer your question, yes I think it would look dumb. But you didn't build your truck for me, you built it for you, so it doesn't really matter what anyone else thinks.

I'd just look at a good set of BFG all terrains or the toyo RT in your case. It'll last a long time and still look good and perform good.

I'm getting my alignment checked tomorrow and if that's not the issue, going to the shop that installed my lift to see if something else is wrong. I had noticed an increase in road noise and thought it was wheel bearings. Took it to a local shop and they said it was just the tires and rotated them for me and sure enough the noise moved from front to back.

Well a lot of times especially with mud tires the more worn they are the louder they get. So if you have 2 tires on the back that are more worn than your front ones that might just be your problem.

Michelin LTX are great tires, but in my opinion a lifted truck calls for at least an all terrrain.

One of the by-products of having tires with deep voids between the tread is that after the wear really sets in, they will become very loud. If you don't want a tire that is both loud or would wear uneven, like the others have suggested; I would recommend a tire like the BFG KO2, the Toyo OC AT2 Xtreme, the Toyo OC R/T. While they share the same tire design as in a hybrid, Toyo has a 45k warranty; so if it's premature wear not caused by faulty suspension they will replace the tire.

Well the "good news"is that my alignment was out of spec. I love my Firestone lifetime alignment. Now the question is do I live with tires, replace the 2 former fronts that are feathered really bad, or get 4 new?

That is entirely up to you my friend. Tires are not cheap regardless of what you buy. I do recommend a good set of all terrains over street tires though. BFG KO2 or toyo R/T is the way to go if want to stay away from the mud terrains. Best decision you can really make is go do some out the door price checking and see if it's in your budget. If it's not then hold off a little bit till it either is or you need the new tires.
