Default Windshield washer freezing up?

My '09 XLT has done this twice now, most recently yesterday (9 degrees) when the roads were wet and sloppy. Driver side stopped working first and then the passenger side. Reservoir is full. Anyone else have this problem? Love the truck but I need to be able to see where the heck it's going!

use de-icer washer fluid. most cheapo washer fluid freezes in low temps, especially in the lines going to the nozzles. i use rain-x de-icer washer fluid, it works well.

Yeah, your lines are freezing up. Get your truck inside somewhere or warmed up to where the lines are open, then drain out all your existing fluid and put in some WINTER blend fluid, something rated to at least -25 degrees. The better stuff like RAIN-X or PRESTONE is rated to -32 or -34 degrees. Once you get the old stuff out and the new stuff in, cycle your washer 10 times or so to make sure the new fluid is in the lines.

Just checked the bottle. The stuff that's in there now is rated to -30.

It might just be ice sitting on top of the spray nozzels, That happened to mine. All I did was brush it away and all was well.

If there was ever any water put in there or washer fluid rated to some higher temperature, a mixture with what was in your bottle that says -30F could still freeze. It's for this reason I use the same stuff good to -30 or -40 all year round; I don't have to worry about emptying the system when it first starts to get cold in the fall.

PS most oil change places and even dealers will dilute their washer fluid with water, increasing the freeze temp from whatever is on the label.

A little isopropyl alcohol can work wonders, too. Though it doesn't mix well with water....

There are SOME cars that actually mildly heat the washer fluid. What a GREAT idea!
My wife's Mariner is susceptible to the icing lines, last year we went on a trip in -17 degree temps and the damned washers froze....sucked big time. Of course...she didn't have the GOOD fluid in, either....depended on the Mercury dealer to 'take care of it'.
Once home, I drained the crap out and put in new RAIN-X and haven't had a problem since.
