I bought a 2010 xl screw 4.6 3v a couple weeks ago. I love it, but I must say it is my first F150 and my first truck, so I can't really compare it to any of the higher-end models. I get around 13.5 -14 city mpg if that matters at all.

XLs are bought almost exclusively as work trucks for companies. Very few buy an XL as a personal vehicle. STXs are a mix of work or personal trucks. FYI the 2008 MY is the old style; the new style is 2009+ MY. The 4.6 3V came out in 09. I strongly recommend getting the 4.6 3V (with 6 speed tranny) over the 4.6 2V (with 4 speed tranny).
