Default Window issues

Hey all...got my first truck a couple of weeks ago and I love it. 2010 F150 XLT Super Crew...awesome truck.

Thing is, I was driving around with my dogs in the back of the truck with the seats folded up and the windows cracked. After a few minutes, I noticed the back driver side window down all the way...and I NEVER put it down all the way when the dogs are riding, cause I don't want them to see something and jump after it. When I tried to roll it up with my driver's control and then with the passenger button, it wouldn't respond. I had to eventually just hold the "up" button and it would inch up every few minutes. I tried pulling the window up manually, to see if it was Off Track, and it didn't seem to be. It finally, as quickly as it seemed to break, started working normally again.

Is this a common problem? I still need to take the truck in to get the "guardian" seat protector crap put on and I am thinking of having them check out that window. Any suggestions on what it could be?

Thanks!

Kyle

I had exactly the same problem with mine within the first couple of months. I've had a ton of water problems and now think it was probably related. Check out my Buyer Beware Post for more details, but keep an eye on the driver's side floorboard, and along the floor rails. Make sure the carpet isn't getting wet from a water leak.

Good luck...Jim

Not a pro, but I would guess there is some kind of short in the wiring or the switch. When you push the button, can you hear the motor trying to lift the window?

Another owner noticed that when his dog was looking out the window he would stand on the window switch and roll the windows down. Not saying this is what happened with you but you never know.

That's what I thought first...and made sure the dog was down and the window would not go back up at all. I checked the window lock switch and even that wasn't fixing it. It was legit stuck down for a few minutes then would go up an inch or two if I was lucky. I eventually got it back up and now it's working fine, but I keep the window locks on.

Appreciate your warning, but there are no leaks *yet*. There hasn't been a whole lot of rain up here in Alaska this summer, but from the showers we have had, and washing it, the inside stays dry. This is a window mechanism issue, I think, not a leak or sealing issue.

I think the radio was on, I had only had 4 hours of sleep the night before, went into work at 3 AM and noticed the issue around 10PM...I wasn't really thinking as straight as I could, and I was too busy trying to keep the dog away from that window to listen.

If it happens again before I take it in, I'll have to try to listen. Thanks!

There is a possible explanation that you dog still did it. The window motors have built in thermal protectors to stop you from burning them up as easily. When the motor gets to a certain temperature they switch will open and the window will not work. If your dog stood on the switch for long enough or pushed it down enough times after the window was already down it could have over heated the motor. This would explain it not working and they a few minutes later inch it up a little at a time as it was just at the temp of the thermal switch.

geez.....

the dog probably just put it's weight on top of the window jamming it or messing up the motor....

That makes sense...she (the dog) has only been in the truck a couple of times and she likes standing on the arm with her head out the window (usually only open enough to just get her head out and nothing more).

I have an appointment to get it looked at, nonetheless...While it's still under warranty, might as well. Gonna have the Guardian seat protector stuff put on at the same time. Will also ask about their bed liners and covers too. I'm leaning more towards spray-in, than drop-in liners because I don't want to have to worry about water under the liner, rusting it.
