Default Wind and MPG

Had the almost perfect conditions for great MPG yesterday. Level road, 10-15 mph tail wind, following 3 tour buses, 58 deg, windows up, no A/C. My truck is stock W/ 91000 miles. This was over a 10 mile stretch and following about 2 sec behind the bus. I normally get around 19mpg. Just interesting how much wind is a factor Oh and 55-60 the whole time

5.0 scab. 6.5 bed. 3.55 gears. Leer 180 topper. Sterling gray

27 MPG

Years ago I was going across country in my 1972 Ranchero and was following behind a truck I was on the CB with, you get close enough to the vehicle in front and you are riding the brakes to not run into him. I forgot the actual mileage but went over 500 miles on 1 tank with a V4 Cleveland going across Nebraska and into Colorado. Wind works both ways.

Years ago I drove a school bus 400 miles to take some kids to a summer soccer camp. My wife followed the bus in my 2002 F-150 Screw. The bus was governed at 55 mph. She drafted behind the bus for 400 miles @ 55 and got over 20 mpg. That truck normally was only good for 17 hwy.

Two years ago we drove my Tacoma out to AZ and UT for a road trip. I was averaging a bit over 20 mpg until we hit Denver eastbound. From Denver to Kansas City I drove into a steady headwind and fuel mileage dropped to 15-16 mpg. From KC back to GA I was out of the wind and back to 20+ for the rest of the trip.

Why is that a typo, 351 Cleveland with a 4 barrel carb was a V4 Cleveland, 255-300 HP depending on the year and version you got. Was also called a 351 Boss in 1971 with the closed chambered 2.19 intake valves, HO in 1972 with open chambers and 2.19 intake valves and CJ in 1971-74 with Open Chambered heads and the 2.04 intake valves

Most people, my self included do not use the barrels of a carb as description of an engine. V8 is appropriate. Unless were discussing an Olds 442 with a V8, 4bbl 4 speed manual and dual exhaust.

The actual names I use as well as a bunch more people from my time, 351 2V, 351 4V, 302 2V, 460 2V or 400 2V were the actual numbers and letters on the air cleaner of said engines. The same system that Ford used from 1960's until Fuel injection.

As Spiky noted, V4 is a typo when you mean 4V...
