winch info please
hey guys, I have searched, and googled and came up with about 15 different answers, so I thought I'll ask here for some of you guys with actual 09-14 F150's for some advice on a decent size winch.
So, some info:
2011 4x4 scab xlt 3.55 open diff.
I don't offroad except to get into the odd fishing hole. Need for 4x4 on these trails is occasional, but there are times, usually in slick mud that 4x4 with an open diff barely gets through. This is only 3 - 5 times during the summer.
I'm thinking a basic winch as insurance, since i'm usually alone with my little 12" aluminum boat on the back of the truck, and often far enough in the bush that there is no cell service.
Truck weighs 2740 KG (approx. 6040 LBS) verified by scale at work.
My question, what size winch should I get? Obviously bigger is best, but....
Keep in mind it MAY be used once or twice a year if unlucky. And most likely, worst case will be a fairly flat pull a few feet to help me through a small mud hole. I'f I don't think it would go through in 4h, I wouldn't attempt it. to give perspective. So would say an 8500# be enough?

that would be awesome but no harbour freights here in Ontario that I know of... and at least a good 7 hour drive one way for me to one in Buffalo if there is one... so a couple hundred bux in gas.. then that $300USD works out to just shy of a quarter million in CDN cash. not really a deal for me.

howdy neighbour... had to look on the map to see where you are... not bad like 2.5 hours away. my truck was actually bought at Stockfish ford in North Bay.

The Tough stuff is supposed to be a good one. I ordered mine here:
http://4wheelonline.com/ENGO_E-Winches_E12000.173721.0
That is not a bad price. Then I wanted to make it removable and so I could install it in the rear if desired. Sometimes you do not want to winch in further...
Curt winch mount
Behind bumper winch mount. ICI or Rough Country about the same.
Part by Warn intended for their winch bumper.
Combined
Installed
Winch in place
