Why should I go from 01 F250 to 11 F150?
Hey all, noob here..I've been a lurker for a while trying to gain some insight on the new F150's. Some serious experts here. I'm currently in a 01 F250 4x4 Ext Cab 7.3 powerstroke. I tow a 21 foot Ranger bass boat. Looking at the new F150's, the 5.0 or ecoboost with 3.73 axle would do a fine job of towing the boat and make a great daily driver. Anybody gone from a 3/4 to 1/2 ton? and what are your thoughts? Thanks..and great forum

Dodge+Ford = always ready
there is definitely a difference in the 2. i prefer the f250 just because i haul/pull a good amount. the f150 is alot easier (depending on your setup) to drive in town and get parking spots. but myself, id stick with the f250.
the f150 for you would be perfect.

I went from a 2008 f250 6.4T which I loved but after ford teasing me by releasing these new engines and driving a new f150 it is so much nicer to drive, faster and cheaper to run and maintain than my 250. Also there is so much room in this truck, so there are no compaints here. I love this thing.
It's also easier to park and if you head into a city it's easier to get around and my wife can drive it if needed.
Also these will tow more than a 21ft boat with ease. With a weight of 7200lbs and a towing capacity of 11,300lbs you'll have no problems.

I traded in my 2005 F250 King Ranch Diesel 4x4 on my 2010 F150 4x4. I would do it all over again. If you're not towing extremely heavy than a F150 is more than capable of getting it done. I don't miss the maintenance costs of owning a Ford diesel, you know what I mean...15qt oil changes, fuel filters and the cost of diesel now being almost $4 gallon vs regular gasoline. The HP and TQ of the new engines are outstanding vs older models. You can't go wrong my friend. The ride quality of an IFS vs a Solid Leaf Spring front suspension is like night and day also. The cost of replacement parts of a gasoline engine vs a diesel engine is 200% lower. You can buy 8 fuel injectors for a gasoline engine for the same price as 1 for a diesel. I can go on and on about this. I owned diesels for years when I towed heavy and used it, but now I tow my jet ski and enjoy the ride.

Great question OP. I traded in my tweaked 05 Cummins for this truck and haven't regretted my decision one single time. I can now talk on my Bluetooth while towing my 6k boat through the hills of ky and tn with ease. This truck is smoother than my wife's 07 tahoe and I didn't think that was possible. It's really up to you and what is driving the bus. For me, I wanted a comfy huge crew cab with a 6.5 bed that got 20+ mpg on the highway and could handle the mountains I tow through without screaming @ the top of her lungs. I probably could've gotten by with 5.0 and saved some cash by doing it, but since I was going from a 3/4 to a 1/2, I errored on the side of caution and got the max tow which requires the ecoboost. The 5.0 is a beast though and I certainly would entertain the idea. Esp if I was towing less than 5k, or not through mountains.
I knew my 2500 was a rough ride, but didn't know how rough 'til I bought this truck. : ) plus, I was tired of paying $4 a gallon for fuel.
Good luck!

My current ride is a 2010 supercab 5.4 XLT.
My first Ford was a 1997 Ranger with the 2.3L gutless 4 banger. Next, a 2003 Crewcab Longbed 4X4 V10 F350.
Too small. Too big. Just right!!!
Unless you tow or haul frequently, the F150 is the way to go. Good ride. Good gas mileage. Reasonable towing and hauling capability.

My comments match most of the above posts. I traded a 01 7.3 250 for a 08 6.4 250. First off no matter what dont do that. Traded the 08 250 for a 11 150 5.0 lariat. Great move. Cost to drive is so much less it is amazing. I tow 5K pounds and the 150 does it fine. As good as either one of my 250 diesels no but it gets it done better than I thought it would. I tow about 5 times a year and the 150 is a much better truck for what I need. Sounds like you are in the same spot.
