I will agree that having one of these hitches in will increase leverage and damage to your frame if hit but still, if your truck is that tall and someone is going to hit that hard then they'll likely do a lot of damage to your driveline without it in place. Take your pick, driveline or frame.

Second time a chebby tapped me. First time didn't have a hitch in luckily there was maby a 2 mph hit and there emblem got stuck in my hitch and that was it lol this time had the hitch in and defiantly did it's job

I used to keep mine in until my kids bought me light up Transformer light. After reading all these posts I am seriously thinking about puting it back in or getting the triangle one. I think the biggest problem is the parking lot idiots that damage your bumper then move on to another spot. a few "minor" bumps turn your bumper in to a dented and scratched piece of sh! .

That's why I got an Ali arc on the front and a 3 ball receiver hitch in back. May eventually get a rear bumper replacement also. I only worry about shopping carts to the side now, haha

No it saved a lot. I would have had to get my bed re sprayed if not. The hitch took the hit, was replaced just because it was a good idea. But me and my bodyshop agreed that the hitch kept my bumper from smashing into bedsides

I'm surprised no one posted this yet.. I run with a monster hook in my receiver. It's been hit because it's scratched. I have no idea what damage it did to the person who hit me

From the SpareBumper.com website: Carrying the tri-ball mount with the hitch inverted (ball down) when not towing can help prevent the colliding vehicle from nose-diving under your truck and bending the frame. Makes sense, up to a point.
