Why no max tow on 5.0? Is the drivetrain lighter duty?

Yessir. I would never buy a 5.0 when you have the EB and 6.2

2011 scab 5.0 more than enough to tow 30 ft TT 5 wheel # 8000 lbs don't believe the hype, very strong motor.

The Max Tow on the FX4's with the ecoboost have 4.10 gears, the 5.0's have all the same extras, just 3.73's instead of 4.10's. I wish they did offer the 4.10 gears with the 5.0 I'd pay to have that

Buy an f-250 if you want to tow that much.

The heaviest trailer I have towed with my 5.0 was 4,500lbs. I have the towing package but not the maximum tow. It towed fine, but that trailer is only 1,000lbs less than the truck. I would opt for a bigger truck if I towed with any regularity.

I sometimes wonder how safe it could really be towing an 11,300lb trailer with a half ton truck. Max tow or not, it seems a little exaggerated to me. Am I way off on this, or is this really safe? I tend to buy vehicles that are much stronger than I need just for the safety factor, but is my logic flawed?

I believe guys towing that much are just set up with 5th wheel hitches. Changes the towing completely...

I discussed this a while ago on another thread.

The 5.0L has some disadvantages to both the 5.4L and the Ecoboost , both that have the max tow package.

The 5.0L has a smaller displacement so it can't cool as effectively as the 5.4L and it has less torque at lower rpms.

My 2010 5.4L had a tow rating of 9600 lbs with the 3.55 axle. The 5.0L makes nearly the same torque with the shorter geared 3.73 axle as does the 5.4L with the 3.55 axle. The 5.0L with 3.73 axle has 9300 lbs tow rating.

To get a max tow rating on the 5.0L, it would need the 4.10 axle, upgraded rear suspension, and larger radiator with the addition of tow mirrors and brake controller.

You can't get the 4.10 with the 5.0L, most likely kills Fords CAFE fuel economy.

It's not the go power it's the stopping power that you need with a truck pulling 8000#.
