Default Who wants crazy power?

Well my buddy works for Ford up in dearborn at the tech center and we got to talking about my new truck and ecoboost. He said they have a f150 EB test truck that just for fun they disconnected the wastegates on the truck and it made 48psi of boost! He said the power was insane but would not recommend doing it. I thought it was kinda cool.

48 PSI of boost is going to be a new optional feature for 2012 EB's. You only have to sign a release for your new warranty, which is good for 5 miles or 5 minutes, whichever occurs first!.............

BLAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe I'm way off, or the tuning/mapping is quite a bit different from other turbo'd cars. But simply disconnecting the WG would result in a loss of power. The ECU will adjust boost and flow to compensate for a "broken" wastegate in order to not blow itself up.
It's all in the mapping, so I'd imagine they uploaded something for a "worst case scenario" to test the abilities of the engine. Simply going out and unplugging your WG can only result in problems and/or reduced boost.

I have a strong feeling that when he said that "they disconnected the wastegates" -- that what they did is take them off and then cover the outlet where they'd been. With no way to limit the boost by venting it through the PSI controlled wastegate.......THAT might make as much boost as the poor little turbos were able to spin up.......you think?
