Who is running air bags and how is the ride?
I just picked up a 2011 F150 FX4 Supercrew 5.5 box Ecoboost.
I'm coming off an 03 3/4 ton Cummins.
I usually tow a light trailer, about 2000 lbs but occasionally I tow some larger enclosed trailers in the 5-7k range.
I'm thinking airbags will be mandatory without the weight distributing hitch.
So what I'm wondering is how is the ride when the truck is empty? With the min of 5 psi in them?
I'd swear my they made my buddies 05 Superduty ride less harsh, but two coworkers with Duramaxes say they stiffened it up a bit.
I got out of 3/4 ton to get away from the rough ride.
So whats the verdict?

I did similar to box driver, firestone bags, dual firestone auto levelers, coat dual on board compressor and tank.
No hassle setting pressure in bags. Ride surprisingly feels a little smoother than before. Work great when towing.

What is the tongue weight you are talking about?
Air bags are a good idea in some cases for goose necks / 5th wheels, but with bumper pull you'll need a weight distributing hitch if the tongue weight is too much because the front axle will be unloaded, and that is not good (braking / steering negatively impacted).

Also I didn't want to always hear the compressors when the bags needed air or I filled tires

I have the ride right bags. My fittings are run to the bumper. I did not buy the compressors. I run 15 lbs in mine all the time. It lifts the rear a bit which I like with my front leveling kit. With my utility trailer it work great. I add a little more air for our camper. I like the ride. Even at 15 lbs I do not really feel a major change.

I have Firestone airbags on my 05 f150... And yes, they do stiffen up the ride, just a little bit though. And they also help with cornering IMO. I wouldnt say it's a stiff ride now, it just seems like its got more of a spring in its step

Firestone ride rites along with an air life wireless controller. The five psi is barely noticeable.
But the 35psi rocks pulling my 7500# travel trailer.
At the weight you are talking about, you will most likely be over your tongue weight for your hitch. 500 tongue and 5000 tow is the rating without WDH.

I have firestone bags and air ride wireless air compressor and love them, they didn't really change the ride but when towing 20ft car trailer with mustang on it it rides awsome and sets perfect with the 2" front leveling kit.
