who else has a 3.7?
After reading up on it all I bought my truck with the 3.7
I may have missed it somehow but I have found no threads harping on problems with a 3.7 powerplant.
Mine runs like a scalded dog when called on to do so. At just under 4.5k miles I am averaging a hair under 20 mpg. I am not so sure there is a downside to this motor.
So what is the downside to having one? Anyone having trouble with their 6 banger?
Is it going to be as strong as my old 4.2 over the long haul?

Meh. I've driven a few and I think it's underpowered, but it's good for a base motor with nice gas mileage and reliability.

Mine only felt underpowered right after driving an Eco but the 3.7L feels quicker than any Chevy I've driven and its a screamer. I like mine and the fuel economy is great

I love the 3.7... I've had no issues with mine, and as far as under powered? Only compared to the Eco boost. Next to a 5.0, there's not much difference, a friend has the 5.0 and sure he takes me off the line, but that's about it... He doesn't get far away from me. As for towing, I towed a Chev truck over 350 kilometers and I burned just over a 1/4 tank of gas. I currently am at 35000 kilometers and the only things I've done is oil changes, you won't regret the 3.7...it's a great engine

I have almost 10,000 miles on mine. Drive my daily one way commute of about 27 miles, majority being very hilly. Lifetime fuel economy is 18.1 MPG. On a 400 mile trip to SO CAL, I averaged right around 22 MPG and made it down and halfway back on one tank of gas (26 gal).
No issue with lack of power, especially comparing to my prior truck, an '09 Ram with the Hemi. This engine Hauls arss if you need to, but is also very smooth and quiet under routine driving habits. Easily averages at least 4 MPG better than the Ram.
Only complaint would be the crappy stock sound, which is easily remedied.

I thought mine was a V8
Only after the test ride did I find out it was a 6. The only down side for me is what you have to do to change the spark plugs on the right bank. Good thing there is 100,000 miles between plug changes.

I've had mine for almost a year now and love it. The old 5.4L was 309Hp near the end and was a lot lower than that when it first came out. My 3.7L is 302HP, it's a 4x4 and I'm getting the same mpgs as my old 3L ranger.
I love my truck !......I did try the EB and loved it as well......but if I had that extra giddy-up-and-go I'd burn through more gas by driving it harder. I'd also be getting speeding tickets. So as long as your truck is mostly a daily driver the 3.7L is quite adequate !

Clearly the downside is the ability to tow anything big or carry a heavy payload. But if you like to drive a truck because you like the looks of a truck, you will be just fine. Slap some eb or 6.2 badges on your truck and no one but you will know!!
