Default Whistle Noise - A/C

Hey everyone - have a 2013 XLT Super Crew and love it. Have 3k miles on it and noticing that fairly often now, I am getting an air or whistling noise through the AC at highway speed. Turn off the AC, whistle stops... Dampers close ... Turn the AC back on and no noise. Hate to take it to the dealer to have the guts torn out but has anyone experienced this?

Is one of the vents closed? My girlfriend always closes the far vent when she rides in my truck. When I'm driving alone later I notice it whistling and I have to pull over to open it.

same here... if more than 2 of the vents are closed or at certain angles... my AC will whistle.. just open the other vents slightly.

Thanks- they are not closed but directionally I am not sure. Will keep more notice of it. Thanks to both replies.

If you have a crew cab also check the vents for the rear passengers. I had the whistle also , but all fronts were open. Then reached back and both center console vents were shut causing the whistle. I opened them up and all good.

F15rex,

If you decide you want to swing by the dealer for a diagnosis, let me know. I'll just need you to PM me your name, phone number, VIN, mileage, and dealer info.

Ashley

i noticed this to one time... thought it was the antenna or something... once i changed the air flow direction around on the system... it went away and was able to put it back to the original setting

I had the exact same issue. The whistle came from the passengers side. At first I thought it was the the passenger door seal it was so loud. It seemed that simply one damper was not opening and closing properly, but the turn off and back on would "reset" it. Fortunately for me it appears the damper hinge eased up and the problem stopped on its own. As you, I cringed at the thought of the dealer ripping into my dash.

Just an FYI. My timing (mileage) was similar to yours when all this was going on. It stopped for me before my first oil change. That's when I was going to bring it up to the dealer.
