Whirring sound when I let off the gas

Thanks for all the info guys, i really appreciate it. Ever since I clocked over 75k a number of things have gone wrong lol. This weird noise, my blend door is clicking, my steering wheel now clicks when turning sometimes, and I have a check engine light, which is apparently an o2 sensor tsb that I need to get done. But haven't had the time to hit up my buddy at the dealer, with everything with my daughter happening over the last few months.

So my gear oil level is fine. I had a co worker ride with me yesterday with the windows down. You couldn't hear it at all. We put the windows up, and there it is. The sound resonates in the cab. He's thinking it's the pinion bearing. I think we're going to do as someone mentioned before, and lift the rear. Then have someone sit in the cab and"drive", too see if we can get it to happen.

So kind of bad news.
Checked the gear oil again. But this time checking the quality of it... Metal shavings. In fact it looked like graphite. So I put a call in to the hook up I have at my work with a guy that does rear ends. It's going in Tuesday. So we'll see what he says

Verdict is in. Bearings. I'm not totally sure which ones were blown. Definitely whatever ones are inside the diff. But I had him replace all of them... Driveshaft, and axle, with the diff ones.
Apparently one of them wore down, and let go. The debris from this one got into the others, and those went. Ring and pinion gear were fine. But I was told they didn't have long before they would've been toast, if I kept driving like this.
Good thing I don't blare metal music like I used to. Otherwise I would've never heard the sound.
Got the hook up with the repair thankfully. One of the perks of working in the industry I guess. Only paying 1/2 of what a dealer or private repair shop would charge.

Picked up my truck today. Wow, what a difference. It feels so different to drive now. Makes me wonder if I was just used to how it felt before, and these bearings were gone for awhile.
Basically what happened was my pinon bearing went. All the rollers were pitted. Shedding metal shavings. This got into the other bearings destroying them. This caused the gears to go out of alignment. So when I let off the gas, the gears would shift out of spec, giving me the whirring/howl sound. My mechanic recommended checking the gear oil once a year, and change it if necessary.
He did wheel bearings too, and the diff is full of amsoil now.
Happy it's fixed.
