Default Battery help! Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi, you are my only hope!

Just picked my 18 day old truck up from the service dept due to it being dead in my driveway after sitting for 3 days. Dealer says they tested everything and nothing is wrong. So I look at my battery and sure enough it has a red dot. I called service to tell them and they said it tested fine so don't worry about it. What should I do??

On the battery there is a little window thing on the top. If you look in and its red its dead. Watch out when you look into it depending on where you are there is a little man with a big fist waiting for his chance at a knock out punch

Default you are not alone

If you look in upper left of this page and conduct a web site search for "battery" you will notice several other threads also reporting dead battery issues. Some suggest there might be a hidden drain on the battery that needs locating. Others wonder if the stock Ford battery is underpowered and ineffective. Those whose trucks are in warranty say to let the dealer provide new batteries and worry about it later. Others report not liking the idea of being stuck with no power and wish to replace the battery with a fancy spiral cell version. Bottom line after much discussion is there is no clear resolution, but if your warranty is in effect have your dealer track down and eliminate all possibilities mentioned in the threads.

I know it is a pain in the but if you can afford to let it sit again you could pull the battery and get it tested at Autozone or Advance Auto Parts. They will tell you if it is holding a charge or a bad battery. I had to do this with a previous vehicle (Chevy...I know I know I saw the light and came back with my current ride) and they tested it and gave me a printout for the dealer and I got a new battery. Then I got a new truck...

I don't think I would buy it being as simple as a weak/underpowered OEM battery spec. The battery is not new technology and if the engineers under-estimated the requirement, it would have been by a small margin. Instead of going dead right away, the battery problem probably wouldn't be known until years later when the owners found out their battery didn't last as long as other OEM ones.

My bet goes to there being an off-ignition drain somewhere.

If that's the case, there is likely going to be a lot of creative-denial on the dealerships' part, until the exact problem is found.
