each button needs two commands, one when pressing, one releasing. there are 34 functions on the radio controls. I don't have anything for the hazard buttons, radio only, but should be possible.

Sounds cool, but will be nearly impossible for me without having the hardware in my hands to test with.

and one of there utilities STN Term at the bottom of the page here http://www.scantool.net/scantool/downloads/ and that's it. not sure if a $25 ebay item will support the protocol or speed needed.

I was wanting to build my own hardware interface so it wouldnt be cluttered and bulky and not need redundant features.

So I signed up for the developer program and did some poking around in the SDK/code examples. It looks like what you can accomplish via sync/applink is pretty limited. Most everything is limited to displaying simple text on the vehicle display and receiving button input from the steering wheel and voice commands. There also seems to be some voice synthesizing, but I'm not sure if that's handled by the phone or Sync. Haha, you can't even detect the vehicle speed, you can only detect whether or not the vehicle is moving at 'low speed'. So it looks like the AppLink interface is really only useful for creating apps like Pandora or like an e-book app. Can't do stuff like interfacing with the CANBUS for setting the blinker flashes etc... Kind of a bummer.

Someone mentioned getting their hands on hardware. On their developers site, Ford mentions a way to request access to a "TDK", which looks like it is essentially a self-contained power supply and radio system. Not sure if they only make those available to app developers or what.

Sorry, I said scantool but it's actually a bluetooth dongle for obdii, can't get much smaller. If you want to build something, look into openxc http://openxcplatform.com/overview/index.html. I see you are ios, I use android.

Thats the way I understood it also, plus has to be approved by Ford? But if you are using a dash mounted tablet or phone and connect through bluetooth at the dlc, you can access the canbus like Torque does and possibilities may be endless, but only trying to mimic radio buttons currently.

I wish I knew what exactly interfaced with the sync and just the truck. Most of the things I would want is likely the truck, but since I know the steering wheel buttons tie into sync I would like to a see a few changes:
1. Be able to disable Sirius. I don't have a subscription and don't want one, but I hate how the media makes me go through all three channels that I don't use/have. I listen to AM, FM, Bluetooth, Jukebox and USB, so just scanning thru those with the media button would be perfect.
2. Be able to just hit a button on the steering wheel like the voice button to confirm a destination instead of having to hit the accept button on the screen/a button below the screen.
3. Make the >> button scan with a press instead of press and hold. Use the << button for just going thru stored favorites.
4. Reverse the logic on the button for ending calls and redial. Just press the phone button once to hang up instead of having to hold it. I'd rather hold it for redial, especially since I rarely redial. Generally if I redial I just use the voice commands anyway.

I agree with the blinker comment, I would like more blinks than 3 for the lane change along with volume control on the blinker, maybe volume goes thru sync?
The other items are the heated seats, like to have it adjustable from say where ever it's at now ~32 OAT up to 60 deg F Outdoor air temp for auto on with remote start.

Thanks in advance and thanks for even offering to try!
