Default Fleet v.s. Retail Sales

Could someone please explain to me what the difference between fleet sales and retail sales is? How can an average "Joe" like myself buy fleet sales and what is the advantage? I'm looking to buy a 2013 Lariat and am wondering which way I should go. I've never purchased new.

Thanks

I purchased a 2011 Screw Lariet back in June of this year. When I first looked at it, they had 4 of the same truck. Same color, trim, style. It stickered for almost 38K. Got it for 29K and got a great trade in on my old vehicle. By the time I went back to pick up the other key, they had sold the rest of them. Was told they were a fleet sale. All the VIN's were sequenced in order.

The fleet manager sells in volume, so theoretically is not as concerned with making a bundle off each sale. Before the days of internet offers, if you didn't want to get fleeced by a alot salesman on his 'up' you had to go through fleet.

Everytime I've bought new, I ask the internet/fleet guys at every dealer in a 300 mile radius for their price on an optioned truck I want. If you sit in the sales floor cubicle playing 4 square and "let me take this to my manager, what do you want your payment to be, etc.etc." then you'll get taken....
