Default When to Weep

I have been reading with great interest on the weep hole issue on this forum and others. Seen about a dozen videos as well and trying to figure something out - basically if it worth drilling

I have a 2012 3.5 EB SCREW Lariat with 20,xxx miles. It is a commuter vehicle and i don't tow anything (but do have the tow package - incase need to tow dads tractor). 80% is city driving.

I have yet to notice any delay or misfire.

Live in SW MO and get fair amount to rain and decent humidity in summer but not FL or Deep South humidity.

All servicing is done at dealer (don't be a hater)

Use Top Tier fuel. Getting about 14 mpg

So, do or should I do this? Or wait until I notice issues?

Thanks

Well, you can do what I did and have the best of both worlds.

I drilled the hole and tapped it to 4-40 screw threads. After all the crap came out of it, I put a 4-40 Allen Head screw in place and then checked it next oil change. Only a little came out so I put the screw back in until next oil change. But leaving it out has no harm.

When your wife backs your new truck into something...?

Just drill it. It wont hurt a thing and may prevent problems from the start.

I would think with your climate, you would want to drill the hole.

Just drill it and forget it. People who put a screw in it are wasting their time. The weep hole is designed to weep over time so nothing accumulates. If you plug it water can accumulate and your motor can take a gulp of it upon acceleration causing the misfire. Stupid.

Thanks all for the advice

Will probably tackle it this weekend. Looks like an easy job.

It seems that 1/16 is the consensus for size?

I'm glad you have esp and know exactly when water has built up. That way you can remove the screw and let it out.
