Default Wheel Hub Bolt MISSING from Factory!

2009 F150 with 114,000Km on it that I got in 2010. Needed a front wheel bearing Hub Assembly and when I went to take it apart I found that 1 of the 4 bolts holding it on was missing! How SAFE is that?

I wonder if had the bolt been there would the bearing have failed as the other side has all 4 and the bearing is still good?

I personally would have a hard time believing that one bolt missing would cause the hearing to fail but then again at 114000 clicks it’s not exactly common to replace front hubs/bearings

How long should the front wheel bearings last?

Are you sure it didn't fall out sometime in 114,000 km?

No but it sure has not been there for sometime based on the look of it.

Well, look at it this way: you've made it safely 114,000 kms

Unlikely it had anything to do with your bearing/hub failure. Also doubt it got off the assembly line missing a critical bolt.. More likely it fell out or was left out by a DYIer or indy shop.

I wouldn’t think you would need to replace them before 200000km but I could be wrong

70,000 miles of driving and almost 10 years of being built....and you blame it on Ford?
You dense?

Obviously nobody has a crystal ball, but I'd guess it was never installed. Ford puts threadlocker on them from the factory and they don't come out easily. Maybe the threadlocker got missed, who knows...... I can't see how this would shorten the bearing life though.

If that is the case then this one did fail early. There was moisture inside it when we took it apart which would surely cause it to fail early. One bolt missing probably caused some movement of it damaging the small seal that is there and allowing the water to get in and causing the bearing to fail imho.
