I got a rock chip on the way to the pass this weekend from a truck and by the time I left it turned into a crack across it. It was 8 degrees outside though.

Only 5300 mi on the truck, not happy

I pay $25 to the insurance co if I need one, but haven't in years. I wait till I have plenty of chips then replace.

Call windshield places, Out of Pocket pricing isn't that bad on a F150, probably the most popular windshield they carry (around here anyway). $150-$250? Some are aftermarket, will be hard to get OEM thru insurance, they would be like 8x higher.

Just replaced mine. The bill was $386 from safelite. I have $100 deductible on glass so I saved $286. It was OEM with the F150 logo.
Chips don't cost me anything to repair.

Local guy charged $200 for mine to replace. Factory with the F-150 logo. I have glass coverage, but the windshield was cracked when I bought it so it wasn't covered on insurance. It's worth paying the small extra fee though.
