900 people later...
26 was standard, 36 was an option, and included with some packages. Now, 23 is standard, and 36 is an option.
Next thread, move along, nothing to see here...

That's because you have a 2011. In 2011 the Ecoboost was only available with the 26 gallon tank. The 36 gallon tank became optional on the 2012 Ecoboost.

I've had my 2010 Lariat for 4 months. I've never put in more than 30 gallons. I run it down to empty according to dash, but only takes 30 gallons to fill. After fill it says a little over 500 to empty. So 500 mi / 14 mpg= 36 gallon tank. So what's the deal?

Master of none
Keep running it down to empty. You'll burn up the fuel pump and get to drop the fuel tank so you can open it up and find out.
Really though, your sender is probably off.

As was mentioned in a previous post - widely believed that you don't want to get down that low anyway as the fuel pump is in the tank and running that low on gas lets the pump get hot. More gas in the tank - the heat is dissipated. My GM was almost perfect - when it said 0 MTE - it would hold all 26 gallons. Ford isn't quite as accurate.

There are a couple of long threads dedicated to this MTE topic as well - I'm in the same boat, I've just wanted to truly know how much I had left in the tank. The truck computer never calculates to what I get in real life. I've tested 4 tanks now pushing it down to 0 MTE - still only holds 32 to 33 gallons.
